The Jayhawks – Tomorrow The Green Grass
Heartbreaking vocal harmonies over twangy guitar; it’s an age old formula, and one that works for the Jayhawks. This is alt-country that wouldn’t be out of a place on a “best indie bands of the year” list.
The opening track “Blue” is perhaps the Minnesota band’s most famous, which isn’t saying much–it peaked at #92 on the Billboard 200 charts in 1995. But the following tracks on the album work seem to work better: “Miss Williams’ Guitar,” written for Victoria Williams, whom singer-songwriter Mark Olson would later marry and then divorce; “Two Hearts,” a gentle song with the unmistakable feel of a heartache; “Bad Time,” possibly the best song on the album, incidentally a Track 7.

Thanks!
Fav Jayhawks album of all time. Never a fan of Grand Funk but the ‘Hawks cover of “Bad Time” is my favourite.
I think “Blue” is a hella song too. Do you have the album by The Thorns (Matt Sweet, Shawn Mullins and Pete Droge)? The covered it.
Msg me via FB if you don’t.
